Main functions

The TPS 2500S (manufacturer: Hot Disk AB, Sweden) utilizes the Transient Plane Source (TPS) method for measurement. The probe consists of an etched nickel double-spiral structure, protected by a 25-micron thick polyimide (Kapton) film. It is typically placed between two sample pieces for testing. Hot Disk offers probes in various sizes for simultaneous measurement of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity, compliant with ISO/DIS 22007-2 standards. The TPS 2500S is suitable for a variety of materials, including solids, liquids, powders, and composites.

During testing, an electric current generates heat in the probe, which then diffuses into the samples. The rate of thermal diffusion is dependent on the material's thermal properties. By recording the temperature response and the probe's reaction time, the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of the material are calculated.
